Firstly I'd just like to say thanks for the link on youre main PG page to my PNG breakdown (DigitalWaffle), I'm glad you liked it that much.
Secondly I'm curious to see if you are using the newer version of PNGOut now, as Ken Silverman has updated it since your last release (as far as I can see you last release anyhow).
Basically he has introduced a palleted option, and optimised some more code. Rather cool for me because he did it after reading my review 8-O
You can read more about his changes here, in a followup I posted to that review:

Thought you might like to know, I'd imagine it would be pretty easy to implement the change (just two compresses, and a comparison in file size). Also - I'm curious as to why you use .NET and haven't converted to C++ or similar.. surely running a command line program as you currently (appear) to do wouldn't require any more effort? If its the time factor tho.. I understand, just curious.
Newer PNGOut means newer PNGGauntlet?

Yeah, I've been meaning to use the new PNGOUT... actually I've been working on a whole new PNGGauntlet, but who knows. I'm really busy with a lot of other things. As for why I use .NET... It's easy, and I like it. This was my first project in .NET and I was sorta practicing with it, but I've found .NET to be a nice way to quickly develop really good apps. C++ is just a lot harder to make work right. I'd definitely make a C++ version of PNGGauntlet (with frontends for Mac now that I have one) if I could re-code PNGOUT completely, but that's another project entirely. I guess I could ask Ken Silverman for his source, but I'd actually rather take a stab at doing it myself. Really, the only reason I made PNGGauntlet was because PNGOUT couldn't do wildcards, and I got sorta carried away.Posted 6 years ago #

Well I for one thank you for it.
Its a great Windows GUI system for PNGOut and PNGrewrite. Who wants to use command line interfaces anymore anyway? ;)
As a side note.. I copied the new version of pngout into the bin folder of PG,and it works fine, with one small bug - it only seems to save the files once I close PG.. this might be a windows refresh issue tho, its hard to tell.
Other than that.. it works great. You could pretty much just modify the palette option to work with pngout (which seems to now give better results than pngrewrite on palettes anyhow) and just pack the new one into the distribution. Would be a nice simple update (I'd imagine, do tell me if I'm wrong).
I'm currently finishing off (so should be posted in the next few hours) an update of the results by using newer version of photoshop and webguru with the new pngout. Pretty much its better all round.. but drop by and check it out. :)Posted 6 years ago # -
Thanks. I've tried that, but on Ken Silverman's advice I'm going to be rewriting the way PNGGauntlet works so that I don't even need PNGRewrite anymore. So it'll take a little longer, but be a better update I think.Posted 6 years ago #

Ah excellent!
Yeah that would have been my suggestion (because of the redundancy of PNGRewrite with PNGOut's newer features) but I thought I'd suggest the simpler option :D
Good luck with it all, can't wait for the update.Posted 6 years ago # -
Oh, so you don't get any questions on it - I updated and moved the article I wrote that you link on the main page.
