Interesting. I've had "Away" players frequently, and XBList never repeatedly notifies about them. Maybe Xbox.com was having a bad day? Is it still happening?

Hey,
love this app, use it everyday. And so far theres only one thing that buggs. When a player is playing something (the game doesnt not matter) but hes away, xblist pop up will say hes on the dashboard, every minute or so. When the main window clearly says hes been away playing X game for Y minutes.

I wrote an AutoIt script using ImageMagicks convert and Inkscape for SVGs and pngout or optipng for optimizing the produced PNGs.
I will try to reach PNGGauntlets GUI Clarity together with independence from .NET and very fast GUI reaction times.

Could you tell me, for what do you need Microsoft.WindowsAPICodePack.dll, Microsoft.WindowsAPICodePack.Shell.dll and why the GUI is starting so slowly ?

Interesting. I'm just using the JPEG-to-PNG capabilities of PNGOUT - your best bet is to convert your JPEGs to PNG using ImageMagick or something else, and *then* run it through PNGGauntlet to compress it. PNGGauntlet is really for compressing PNGs - the JPEG-to-PNG conversion is just a convenience.

Access to the path 'C:\Program Files\PNGGauntlet\output.txt' is denied
...

Which is actually the default on Windows 7, no application should be writing anything on that folder, which I find is a sensible setting. Is there a way to set it so that it writes the output.txt under the users AppData/Local folder instead.

Alright, it's in the air now. Also, I do not use a window manager of any sorts. What would one want with a window manager, especially in windows 7? I'm a fairly advanced user of windows and I can't see what I'd need an app for, I can handle my windows easily with no app :S Crazy.

That's very odd - XBList is actually designed to work well on multiple monitors. You wouldn't happen to be using a custom window manager or something? If you could email me your settings file from C:\Users\<your username>\AppData\Roaming\XBList\settings.xml after closing XBList, I might be able to figure it out.

I can't really think of anything I'd like specifically linked to Reach, since I really just want a friends list on my pc and not much game specific integration. That said... I guess it would be totally rad if you could make the app look as rad as Reach's in-game 'active roster', that would be awesome but I assume a ton of work just mostly for visual appeal.

Maybe it actually wouldn't be that hard, considering you can pull the color data for each friends 'tab' or whatever right from Bungie.net just like their little emblems and such.

Thanks. XBList is in fact still under development - it's just already pretty much the way I want it, so I haven't accumulated enough changes to justify a full release. Be assured that fixing the login process is a high priority though.

I'd just like to say that I've used XBList for at least 3-4 solid years of the 5 years it's been around and it's always been really great. Almost every time that I've reformatted my pc or built a new one I've searched around for a different Xbox Friends List application and without fail it seems XBList is literally the only existing app for the job.

Lately I've been assuming that there will be 'some' activity on the app's development for the upcoming Halo Reach game since Ben Hollis seems to be a big Halo fan, at least judging from the halo specific features, and the few other halo things he's done. All that said it saddens me that the app isn't really in any active development.

I realize that there really isn't much to do either way, and maybe this is because I'm used to using applications that are both new and in beta form thus they are extremely active. Most of my lust for a more active focus on this app is due to it being the only one of it's kind and seeing the potential for it to really be great, heck it could even become extremely popular if it hits the right buttons and gets featured on a tech/gaming blog :)

Just some very quick and small thoughts on actual features and such:
-Is there anyway to internalize the sign in process so it doesn't need a separate browser to open up and sign in?
-Have you considered opening the project up to the community and allowing open source individuals to maintain it rather then it being basically a side project for yourself?

Anyways I just thought I'd finally contribute something (check your paypal, from Joey Johansen) to you seeing as XBList is a great little app that's one of it's kind even over 5 years time, I hope you continue to at least keep track of it and keep it alive in some capacity.

Thanks.

Liz, you need .NET Framework 3.5, not 4.0. Can you install that and try it out? It's pretty confusing, but having just the newest .NET Framework isn't enough.

Well, somehow, PNGGauntlet does not start on my computer. Windows just keeps poping up the error message. And I have .NET Framework 4.0, so I guess my OS must be the problem. I'm using XP SP3, and I wonder if this version of PNGGauntlet is compatible with it?

The column sorting has been fixed in PNGGauntlet 2.1. Thanks for the suggestion!

Give it another shot. I had a typo in the filename when I updated the site.

I'll definitely take a look at that. Don't worry about files that grow, though - PNGGauntlet will never overwrite a file with a larger "compressed" version. That's why they're colored red.

Great application! I have only had a few opportunities to make use of it, but I already know that this one's a keeper.

Some files that don't compress, however, actually *grow* in size. I thought I'd simply review these files by sorting on the "% Original size" column. No dice; it resorts the list, but I can't tell what it's actually sorting on. All I know is that it doesn't sort on any column correctly but the "Filename" column.

Yep, I'm completely aware of it - the gadget is pretty broken. It's some bug in Sidebar though that I'm hitting - I don't think I'm doing anything weird.

Just got my xbox and looked for an app to manage my xbox live stuff on my PC. Founds yours, it's really great however, I don't stay connected with the app if i close IE8. It loses the connection. Is this a known problem, if not, what information do you need to trace it?

Edit: Nevermind. I was automatically deleting cookies and passwords using a setting in IE8 on exit, which caused the problem.

I have the same problem but I use 3 instances to show all 3 categories. Each time I reboot Vista (build 6002), one instance becomes a blank space in the sidebar (gadgets below don't flow up to fill the gap, and the instance is still listed in the remove gadget dialog). If I reboot again without fixing the problem another instance becomes blank too (2 blank gadgets, one survivor).

Right clicking in the blank space where the gadget should be brings me the right click menu for the sidebar itself, not the Top Processes right click menu, and moving the pointer to the edge where the options button should appear doesn't either, so there is no obvious way to reconfigure the half-dead gadget instance.

Since this happens in both Vista and Windows 7 (according to Antonio and Raul), I suspect it may be something related to how this gadget does the "multiple instances" chores in its code. I have not read the gadget authoring documentation from MS, so I cannot check the code myself, sorry.
